Name: Kavy Email: kv01@ Location: Henderson, Ky. USA Date: Sunday, December 29, 2002 at 05:17:00 Comments: I bought my 1st pc almost 2 years ago. I got Calmira from the local libary. Being that I hated the win3x interface. It's a great shell, I don't even use progman anymore. Thanks for all your hard work. Now I just wish someone would make it able to fool 32 bit apps to run in it. I love the simplicity of it. I just can't help but wonder if it could be done. After the amazing job that you did with Calmira. Ol bill might not like it,but I would think he don't like anything that keeps those billions from his pocket. I suspect that the newer os's don't come close to the simplisity, and configurablity of win3x with Camira. And like others, I'm putting it on every win3x machine I find. Just call me a fan! And Thank you again. Kavy
Name: Franz Hi! I was just passing through your site, you have lots of great information, good reading, thank you.
Name: Jorn Nolles THE greatest Windoze 3.1 GUI program ever!!!!!
Name: Jaquline Maddison I was sceptical about the message I got that there was a program that would improve my system and make life a lot easier. But then I am often wrong, for BEHOLD!! CALMIRA II is alive and well. So what can I say other than it is the very best that I have seen and ever used. Please keep up the great work, for you have made a small Army of fans here in Australia. Infact if the Duchess of Argyll had not told the Government Department I work in about it we would all be learning new skills on new equiptment. Thank god we now have Calmira. It works and is great!! Thank You .
Name: Andycel Calmira is a great shell replacement for me, because my OS Windows 95, has cause many errors. I know that the Calmira was tended to be use in Windows 1.3, but it is also great alternative for Windows 95, which may cause lot of error.
Name: Rich Stekeur I used to use Calmira until i went to 95. Great shell!!! (BTW.... License is spelled with an "s" not a "c" (Licence))
Name: Ernest Hi, I'm back again. Calmira still rulez! Found an interesting DOS Equivalent: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Park/5056/dos94.htm Keep your eyes open ! :-) Ciao Ernest
Name: guy john mugu nice site, guyman mugu was here
Name: NightmareCoder Calmira is really the greatest Win 3.1 GUI I've ever seen!!! It's fast, nice and very easy to start and use!!! And wow, I have a 25Mhz Laptop with 2MB RAM and Calmira runs very good on it. :)
Name: Mark Pritchard Though I don't use Calmira now I pop in to see hows it's progressing from time to time. Calmira seems to get better with time. Keep up the good work. BWT I have used Calmira on OS2 v4 Warp and it seems to run fine.
Name: James Laughter Hey! Every time I find a computer that has Windows 3.x i put calmira on it. Calmira is the best thing that happend to 16-bit Operating Systems baby! One of the many computers i have is a compaq prolinea 4/25s which runs calmira like a charm and theres no way i think t has a 25Mhz pentium! Go on to make better versions! ROCK ON CALMIRA!
Name: Kris Lake I hope the Calmira people talk to the eComStation.com guys about how Calmira II could transform the boring look and feel of the 16-bit Windows sub-system in eComStation 1.1x. Calmira II needs wider distribution, eComStation needs a new look and feel for its Windows sub-system. This should be a marriage made in heaven, but nobody has sent out any invitations to a "wedding". . . Why ever not ?? KL/2
Name: IGWE KELLY Hello my brothers, just keep offooooooo'''
Name: Neo Wow, I have a really old Epson laptop (from like 1988!) running a 386 processor that was about to go to the dump when luckily I ran across Calmira. IT TRANSFOMED IT! I decided to keep the darn thing since Calmira gave Windows 3.11 a total makeover. I thank you for creating such software...
Name: Chris Calmira is simply the the best thing to happen to Win 3.1. I started using it from ver. 2.0, It keeps my 486 DX4/100 user friendly GREAT keep up the good work
Name: Joel All of you talked about giving new life to old machines but to be honest m4ve just put win 3.1 with calmira and I just love it especially because I don4t need to make those huge downloads to get my pc running smoothly I4ve got a pc with 256ram 900mhz intel celeron processor and 40gb hard disk with win xp and I can say that both systems work in such a way that i will keep that pc for at least ten years
Name: Wolfgang J. Levinson Calmira is a very impressive shell. As a software developer myself I can appreciate the beauty of it. Before I got my newer 32-bit Dell Dimension, I used Calmira on a Win 3.11 for Workgroups box. Great work! :)
Name: Uranium Superb program, keep it up :-)
Name: kire Good site :'>
Name: Tawanda My mother bought an old laptop from the thrift store. A compaq 386 with 4 megs. She was wondering what she could do with it so I asked her if I could have it to play around with. I was searching for a way to put win95 on it when I came across Calmira. My husband said that I was stupid to waste my time on any of it and that the comp was even less than a doorstopper. When I showed him what I had done with Calmira, he was amazed and said that there was hope yet! All of this from a computer database administrator at Washington University.
Name: Pavlos S. Kotronakis I was very sceptical about upgrading from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 on an old Compaq Portable 486c I happened to run into, thinking that this operating system was resource hungry and would make the old machine slow. I decided to keep Win 3.1, although Program Manager was a little bit awkward. So when I tried Calmira II ver 3.3 as a shell, I SIMPLY COULD NOT BELIEVE IT! What a great job, and what a smart idea! Many thanks! I'm currently thinking of translating Calmira files into Greek, my mother's tongue. I simply regret the fact that I don't know programming in Delphi, to make further implementations to the code... Many thanks again, anyway!
Name: Pete Excellent ! New lease of life to a 386. Thanks everyone, keep it up.
Name: Mike Lee I downloaded Calmira II the other day, to use on my DX4/100 486. What a smart program this is. I have altered the setting in a lot of ways to suit. This is highly configurable. This makes Windows 3.11 worth using. It is very stable so no worries here. Thanks for a great program..... Mike.........
Name: Adam My dad's old work shut down and they chucked everything in the big bin. EVERYTHING! Computers, chairs, photocopying machines, tables, stationary, the list goes on. So, my dad went and got some stuff. Most of the tables and chairs were gone. Some were really old, and had green screens, but the bosses one was good, A 3.11. I have it in my room now and since I have got Calimra it looks so much better.
Name: mjack Calmira is a very much good replacement for the program manager of windows 3.1. mjack
Name: Jazza Hey! Calmira Rox! I have an old 386 with Win 3.11 on it and Calmira has made it come alive! Thankz Guys!
Name: Steve Morris aka sam, samIam I have an old laptop that is a lot of fun.... I have used win311 to set up old machines before but after I get the set up done then it just runs out of uses so this has added functionality that makes it useful for me. Great Job!!! Thanks. sam

Name: BL Gaino Hello Calmira programmers. I got happy when I came across calmira shell for windows 3.1.I got it few days ago. And I was also happy that I already had Delphi 16-bit. Which was with PC Plus issue 161 CD-rom. So I could compile the shell in my language which is Sami. Even MicroSoft couldn't done better. I'm trying to translate all into my language. BL Gaino

Name: FSK1138 I am a proud DOS user !! CALMIRA is the best thing that has happened to 16bit -- think i will pick me up another p75 !--and install the beta--! stay digital :)
Name: Don Booth Good job on Calmira, I use it on my old Win 3.11 computer, and it works very well. I downloaded the translation pack, and I'm translating it to Latin. Yes, I know that probably nobody would want a Latin version of Calmira. I've had some problems getting to the FTP server, though.
Name: Marco Just tried that great Calimar II 3.1 on my old IBM-Thinkpad 486SX/25...you guys really made a good job.
Name: Johnny Mash Calmira makes me glad I didnt shell out $$$$$ for a Win95 machine. P120 16mb Win3.11wfwg/6.22 Calmira 3.25 and loving it. Program Managers belong in TV stations, not on my screen! :)
Name: Rufus Tallwalker I use Calmira on my laptop. It is wonderful to find a working system that does not "crash" everytime I move the computer. Thank you very much. How do people get those wonderful background screens on Calmira. I am not a programer, so I need a simple way. Once again, thank you very much.
Name: Bill Ellis Been looking for some more upgrades for WIN 311. I am building a pentium 133 and will install Win 311 with Calmira
Name: Brian C. I'm a Calmira user since Calmira II 3.0, and I love it. I'm really glad that someone has devoted time to making such a great shell for such a great operating system. Windows 3.1 will NEVER die!!! I can't wait until Calmira v4.0 comes out.
Name: Jim I LIKE it.
Name: Guido Lehwalder Hi, Calmira looks great :-)) Fine to see that anyone is working on such software ! I would try it the next days.... will it run with IBM PC-DOs 7 ? Bye Guido.
Name: Douglas Robertson What about making it look like windows xp (although I expect Delphi wouldn't manage it, and it would probably be too resource hungry
Name: Wengier Calmira is excellent! But why can't it support LFN when DOSLFN or LFNDOS is running?
Name: John Sorry all - i meant i had it running on a 286 not 386! Once again sorry.
Name: John In response to the Calmira requires a 286 or better- I had it working on my 286 but it was very slow indeed but it did happen to work.
Name: Pierre Michel Laroche Excellent work!!!
Name: Angie I used Calmira on my old 386 with Win 3.11 and since then I have moved thro 95/95OSR2/98/98SE and ME. I have just purchased Partition Magic 7 and will be creating a FAT Partition on my main computer so I can run 3.11 and Calmira. I think it's fun to try things. Thanks to all the developers for your efforts. I have had a link to Calmira on my ham radio website IT page for some time. I am a GranGeek with four computers, three websites and a mailing list and I am a radio ham. Angie G0HGA
Name: Pertti Calmira is very good.
Name: EDR You've single-handedly resurrected my 486SX (you... and the full version of Doom). Being too used to the Win95/98/XP GUI system, I'm thankful that you've developed this software. Keep on developing, and I'll keep on worshipping.

Name: Viki Calmira is the best Win3.1 shell ! I Have an old 486 with 4 Mb RAM, with only 16 colors. But with Calmira, i can use my Windows 3.1 more easily and more comfortable. thanks for Calmira ...
Name: Chewy509 After a nightmare time with Windows2000Pro, I recently pulled out my DOS/WFW disks, wiped the harddrive (it's only 3.2GB), and installed DOS/WFW. Now instead of taking minutes to boot, I get the GUI in 2.5secs. I recently added Calmira, modded it to look like W2K, and now my wife can't tell the difference between the two (she still thinks I'm running W2K). A fantastic job... keep it up...
Name: Hendrik Delagrange Dear Calmira community, This is a farewell note. I have finally put together anough resources and bought an XP-preloaded computer - which has more RAM than my old harddisk. Xp is very good. It has lots of improvements to Win3.x, like long filename support and eh... eh... an improved start screen with TWO rows that configures itself, you don't have to do it yourself. Untill december 2001 I have used Win 3.11 with Calmira. The old computer is still standing somewhere. I can't part from it, because of the joy and pleasure it has given me in keeping it running all those years, thanks to Calmira. I'll have to grow up and give it in for rcycling at some time. However great XP might be, I will miss the 'gotcha' feeling that Calmira gave me. It was like driving in the fast lane with an oldtimer. It also made me conscious of what the software industry is about and what win-tel really means. If you can get that much functionality out of such a limited computer, why do we need those gb's for? Now what would be nice is a program to give XP the Win3x-with-Calmira look and feel. Win3 had some simplicity about it that I still appreciate if I turn the old computer on to get some old file from the harddisk. Wish you all the best and congrats once more
Name: Alex M Calmira is great! Ad a file manager if it is posible!

Name: Reid Solberg I've used Calmira for about a year now, on my Compaq Presario 633 (486-SX 33, 28MB RAM, 2400Baud Modem, SVGA, Broken 16x CD-ROM drive). The computer somehow ended up at my grandmother's house, and Calmira makes it much easier to show her how to use the computer. I am currently learning Delphi, and I think it'll take me awhile. Reid Solberg Age 14 (I got your attention, didn't I)

Name: Michael L. Dawley Running Calmira on two computers in the Windows 3.1 partition. On one, I also have Mandrake 8, Redhat 7.1, Windows 98,and in the DOS/Windows 3.1/Calmira partition, I have Arachne 1.70. On the other, I have Mandrake 7.2, and DOS/Windows 3.1/Calmira, with Arachne 1.70. See my page for the menu that I use in the DOS/Windows partition. http://www.angelfire.com/ms/telegram/menu.html If you use Arachne, you might like to set your home page to http://www.angelfire.com/ms/telegram/dial.html That page has special features if viewed using Arachne 1.70. I am enjoying Calmira, It's fun to have a task bar like in win 95 and 98. I recommend it for that reason alone, over the barebones win 3.1, which hides everything behind a maximized window, such as netscape.
Name: Mike Hurden The recent comment from the guest from from New Zealand is correct as calmira will run in winNt 3.51 but not any later versions. Also ther whwer some problems using it prior to service pack 2 if memory serves me correctly. Suggest our friend contacts Erwin Dokter as he may hve some more info. Stillagree calmira is a very good program for anyone using win 3.11
Name: Stefan looking for a excellent office-app for win3.1? try to get StarOffice4!it also runs under win3.1! due to copyright problems, its not downloadable from the net, you should try it at ebay.com! you can also try StarOffice3trial, downloadable at http://www.vobis.de/bbs/firmen/stardiv/vers310/t_bvers/win31/
Name: Enigma - (Mark Bassett) nice job 3.12
Name: James Brine RULES
Name: Santiago Montalvan Thank you very much for developing such an awesome program. I have an old Digital HiNote 486DX4 with 24MB with Windows 3.11 that I take with me when I go on vacation or when I do some homework at the library. I added Calmira and it turned my old 486 into an almost brand new computer, what a change, I couldn't believe it. I wish I could be a programmer, it mush be awesome be able to make something as cool as Calmira. I'm still having a hard time with for-loops in C++. OK I better go to bed now. GOOD JOB and keep working hard. Santy.
Name: Alex Popadjuk CALMIRA the Best is Best! please enter support RUSSIAN language. sorry for my anglish.
Name: Roger Smith Ok i've decided to partition my win 98se comp it's an 800mhz p3 with 112 mb (not for long soon getting antoher 256mb) I've got a Nvida TNT 2 video card and a C-media sound card. I want to get the win 3.1 drivers and apps for these b4 i put win 3.1 on cause otherwise i might be stuck with either low res or low colour depth. btw calmira rules. email me if u know of any site that has or makes win 3.1 drivers for new and not so old cards
Name: Roger Smith I love Calmira ever since I first found it a few years ago. Now I've only got my Win 98 comp so I may have to find some parts just to make a win 3.1 computer so i can run calmira again. Great work
Name: Victor Charles Lamberty This program looks so cool it may be the just the thing that I was looking for (I'll report back later)
Name: Jerome Walker Hey, anyone stupid like me and try to run Calmira inside of Windows 98? It's pretty cool to have two start bars, even if only for a little while.
Name: R A Tallwalker It is a shame that MicroSoft discontinued 3.1. I have installed it in both of my laptops and utilize all the Calmiri programs. I find they are far superior to 95 or 98 and 3.1 is a less complicated format to work with. Thanks for keeping this site alive.
Name: Fire Snake hmmm... well... i was looking on google for screenshots of windows 3.1 to show my girlfriend how win 3.x looked in the old times and i found one of calmira's screenshots. now i will install vmware , try to find a warez distro of win 3.1 floppy disks (btw: when will micro$oft will release free the old win 3.1 ? - maybe never, as most of actual win flavours are still based upon 3.1 ?), and install calmira to play with. if i'm satisfied i will fill al my friend's 386/486 with it :-) i'll come back later with post-install impressions
Name: Roberto Still got the Old PC even though I mostly use mac now for my job, I still use Calmira, Call me nostalgic But I still love windows 3.11. And Calmira is still the Program I use the most when faced with Windows 3.1. I hope they continue to make Calmira for many years to come the Newer versions just keep getting better

Name: Mark P Just to let Calmira users know, It CAN be used on WinNt 3.51. Just tested it, seems to work well. Just make sure the links in the Start menu are shortened DOS paths. I've sent a screen shot hopefully it'll be up in a few days. Loaded it via the startup group with the program manager minimalised. Keep up the good work guys :) Now for a bit of customising.............
